Live Drawing Croquis Workshop
Join us for this special live figure drawing class, hosted by local artist Taryn Lee! This class draws from the traditions of fashion croquis drawings, theatre, as well as traditional figure drawing. Learn the basics of figure drawing and practice both drawing a live model and being the model; participants will take turns modeling for each other for short periods. Each participant will be given a random “pose” to use for the drawing, making each drawing session unique!

Sustainable Gardening Workshop
Lets grow some vegetables! In collaboration with the Natural History Museum, we will be hosting a sustainable gardening workshop at the library. Learn about the different types of containers used for growing vegetables, the best soil mediums, drainage, soil nutrition, how to transplant vegetables, and more! Participants will get to take home a ten gallon grow bag filled with soil and veggies that they’ve planted themselves.
Registration is required. Please register for only 1 session.

This session is intended for middle school students in grades 6th-8th.

Book Binding Workshop
Make your own book from scratch! This hands-on workshop will walk you through the process of making your own book. All materials will be provided. This class is intended for beginners with no previous experience.
This session is intended for Adults (ages 18+)

Water Marbling
Join us this Wednesday evening in The Workshop to create your own marbled designs! Using water marbling techniques, you’ll create your own marbled paper for wrapping, book binding, origami, and everything else you can imagine. All materials will be included.

Linocut Workshop
Join us in the Workshop for a hands-on learning experience on printmaking through linocut! You’ll learn the process from beginning to end; how to transfer an image, carve out the image on linoleum, and apply it to a piece of paper or fabric with paint.
Participants are encouraged to bring a piece of artwork that they’d like to transfer and print onto paper, fabric, tote bag, or even shirt!

Join the Workshop as we head outside the Library and venture across our parking lot to the Embassy Suites to paint en plein air. We have a limited amount of materials to offer (easels, paint, charcoal) so we encourage you to bring some of your own materials too.
This will not be a formal how-to class, but more of a meet-up for our community members who enjoy art and nature, to get together and learn from each other. This is a great opportunity to continue learning and grow your artistic skills and interests!
This program is intended for Adults (18+).
Note: Please meet in the Workshop at the Downey Library first. We will then walk over to Embassy Suites as a group. Please do not go to Embassy Suites before checking in at the Library.

Intermediate Crochet
Explore amigurumi patterns! Amigurumi, or “working in the round,” is a specific method of crocheting often used for making stuffed animals and other 3-dimensional objects.
Learn crochet stitches utilized when working in the round, such as increase stitches and decrease stitches, as well as how to read and follow a written pattern.
This class is intended for adults with basic crochet knowledge. You must know how to create a slip knot, create chain stitches and single crochet stitches.
All materials will be provided.

Anime Workshop
It’s Anime time! Join local Downey artist Taryn Lee in this anime drawing workshop where you’ll learn how to draw portraits using proportion, perspective, and shading in easy-to-follow ways, as well as how to illustrate a variety of anime expressions. This workshop is open to people of all drawing levels who are interested in anime. All materials will be provided.
