Hora de Cuentos Bilingüe para Niños Pequeños
A partir del 10 de enero, todos los Miércoles tendremos una hora de cuentos bilingüe para niños pequeños (de 18 a 36 meses).El tiempo de cuentos bilingüe para niños pequeños en español ofrece libros, canto, juegos de dedos y actividades de música y movimiento, diseñadas para fomentar el crecimiento en todas las áreas de desarrollo de la primera infancia.

Hora de Cuentos Bilingüe para Preescolares
A partir del 11 de enero, todos los Jueves tendremos una hora de cuentos bilingüe para preescolares (de 3 a 5 años).El tiempo de cuentos bilingüe para preescolares en español ofrece libros, canto, juegos de dedos y actividades de música y movimiento, diseñadas para fomentar el crecimiento en todas las áreas de desarrollo de la primera infancia.

Infant Massage Class
Join Ms. Coco Pacheco, our Children’s Librarian, at the Library for our special infant massage program! Studies have shown that infant massages help support the health and well-being of babies and parents, as well as stimulate all the senses of both the baby and parents to promote bonding.
This 5 week program will help parents learn massaging techniques they can incorporate into their daily routines. Parent’s will learn and build on different strokes and pressure methods for their baby, gain insights into their baby’s body language, and will provide parents an opportunity to discuss relevant parent topics, ask questions, share experiences and get support from others.Click Here to learn more about the benefits of infant massages
Sign, Say & Play
Babies have a lot to say even before they can actually speak. With the Sign, Say & Play program, babies and toddlers will learn to communicate using simple, easy-to-learn signs – what they see, what they need and even how they feel. The program will help both adult caregivers and children as children learn how to communicate their needs, wants, and interests.
This is a 12 week program, meeting once per week. Pre-registration is required.

The Everyday Brain Builders Activity Cards will help you fill children’s days with brain-building activities that fit right into your routines! Handy forms and a checklist will help you get ready to care for the children in your life.

Kits are meant for families with children ages 0-5 and are available during Stoytimes and in the Children’s Area of the Library. Ask staff for more information.

Early Literacy + STEM Kits
This past year, the Downey City Library conducted a 3 month long backpack distribution program where we delivered 795 learning kits students in 12 Downey preschools and early learning institutions. Students received:

A STEM box with supplies for the Lights and Shadows activity provided by the Columbia Memorial Space Center’s Early Childhood Program
along with an in-class story time read-along session.
The program was initially made possible by the California State Library and the Shared Vision Early Learning Grant, and we were proud to participate in the education and enrichment of young students in our community.
If you know someone or are yourself interested in helping us continue this program to help disadvantaged kids within the community develop a life-long love of reading and learning, please fill out the program form and we’ll contact you as soon as possible. Feel free to read through and share our Informational Packet to learn more and spread the word. Right now we’re looking for organizations and individuals who can sponsor the program and provide funding.
