How It Works:
Participate: Sign up to Beanstack to try one of our many reading challenges!
Read: Complete a set number of books, hours, or specific tasks depending on the challenge.
Win: Earn rewards for completing challenges or enter raffles for a chance to win exciting prizes!

Current Reading Challenges
1000 Books Before Kindergarten
One thousand books? That seems like way too many, right? Not at all. You got this. There's no better time to start than now! Reading helps build social and emotional skills, sparks creativity and imagination, promotes bonding, and helps little ones learn key literacy skills. Take that motivation, open one book, and get started. And remember, 1000 is just a number. The goal is to work reading aloud into your regular routine and let the magic of stories do the rest. Log each time you read a book to earn awesome badges and after you reach milestones pick up a prize from the Children's Department. Happy reading!
For Ages: 0-5
In-N-Out Cover-To-Cover
It’s back! The Downey City Library is partnering with In-N-Out Burger for this year’s Cover to Cover Reading Challenge, running from October 4 through November 15!
Readers ages 4 to 12 can participate by picking up an official reading reading log at the Information Desk. Track your reading as you go: for every 5 books or 300 minutes read, you’ll earn a special Achievement Award certificate!
Participants can earn up to 3 Achievement Awards throughout the program (while supplies last).
Pick up a reading log at the Downey City Library Information Desk starting October 4.
Read and track either 5 books or 300 minutes per milestone. (Parents can read to younger children!)
Turn in your completed log to library staff at the Information Desk by November 15 to collect your Achievement Award.
Stop by the library to grab your log and get reading today!

How to Beanstack
To create a Beanstack account, click the sign up button below. Families may be linked together through parent/guardian information.
Challenges are targeted for specific age groups. Check the age before signing up for a specific challenge.
To earn badges, complete each challenge as described on the webpage. For example, a bingo challenge will require you to get bingo by filling out badges in arow, column or diagonal line.
Once you’ve completed a challenge, you’ll either receive a prize and/or be entered into a raffle to win a prize. Please read each challenge description to find out the type of reward system it uses. Visit the Library to retrieve your prize with verification on Beanstack.
