Get a Downey City Library Card - It’s Free!
Downey City Library cards are free to all California residents. Your library card is your key to all library services. During the library’s renovation, all of the Library’s physical materials will not be available for checkout; however, the library currently holds an ever-growing digital library which cardholders will be able to access for free.
How do I get a card?
Be a California resident
Bring a photo ID, such as a California Driver’s License, California ID, Military ID, Passport, Matricula Consular, etc.
Bring proof of your current address in California, such as a California Driver’s License or utility bill (We do not accept P.O. Boxes as proof of your current address)
If you are under the age of 18, a parent or guardian with an acceptable form of identification and proof of address, must be present to sign for the minor.
Where do I apply?
While the library is closed for renovation, we will be issuing library cards at all Downey City Library events. You can print and bring a filled out application with you, if not we will have applications on-hand for you to complete in-person.
