Mosquito League Unit Experience
Summer is here, which means so are mosquitos! Join Ms. Lily and Ms. Diana from the Greater Los Angeles Vector Control District to learn more about these itchy pests; get a closer look, learn how their biology works and how to protect yourself and prevent their spread. Participants will be given an activity worksheet and a giveaway item.

Kick-Off Celebration for this year’s Summer Reading Program!
🎮 Super Smash Bros. Doubles Tournament – Kicks off at 11:00 AM! Grab a partner and battle it out in our 2v2 tournament for fun and prizes! All skill levels welcome. (Ages 10-15)
🎈 At 1:00 PM, enjoy a fun-filled performance by Annie Banannie, the incredible balloon storyteller who brings stories to life with twists, turns, and lots of laughs!

Coding & Robotics Club
Join us at the library every month for the Coding and Robotics Club! In each session, you'll learn some basic programming using a block-based coding language, and then try out what you've learned with Microbits—small computer boards that can do all sorts of cool tasks. Each session will build on the last one, and by the end of the program, we'll be programming the Microbits to work like little robots.

LEGO Robotics Club
Get ready to build, code, and watch your LEGO creations come to life! Join Jose Jimenez, the Director of Downey Chess Club, as he guides students through the exciting world of LEGO building and coding. Not only will you learn the basics of STEM and 21st-century skills, but you’ll also be taking your first steps toward becoming a future digital leader. This program is the perfect launchpad for elementary students gearing up for middle school and high school VEX robotics, where you’ll dive into Scratch and Python coding.

Clay Sculpting
Learn how to sculpt with polymer clay! In this hands on workshop, participants will experience the full process of sculpting with polymer clay from beginning to end, which includes the sculpting process, baking their sculpture, and finishing it with paint. All materials will be provided. This workshop is intended for beginners with no previous experience.
No Registration Required. This is a drop-in session, join us anytime between 5:30-7:30.

Fabric Painting
In this hands on workshop, participants will use fabric paint to create a design on fabric. All materials will be provided, including a limited supply of zipper pouches to be painted on. Participants are encouraged to bring their own t-shirts, hoodies, or tote bags to paint on.

LEGO Robotics Club (CANCELED)
Build a LEGO and watch your creation move! Jose Jimenez (Director of Downey Chess Club) will help students learn building & coding along with the fundamentals of STEM education and 21st century skills needed to become the digital future leaders of tomorrow. This program is also a great way to help elementary students prepare for middle school and high school VEX robotics building & coding program (students will learn Scratch & Python).

Screen Printing Workshop (Session 2)
Join us in the Workshop to learn the basics of screen printing! In Session 2, participants will produce a variety of prints using their completed screen. Participants are encouraged to bring t-shirts, tote bags, or any other articles of clothing they’d like to print their design onto. All other materials will be provided. This class is intended for beginners with no previous experience.
It is intended for participants to sign-up for and attend both sessions. Session 2 will be the following Saturday, August 17th.
