As part of Theater Thursdays: International Cinémathèque, we open our November screenings with a film about the bonds, burdens, and small joys of family life. Quiet, tender, and deeply humane, it shows how love holds a household together even when everything around it is falling apart.

Pather Panchali follows a poor family in a rural Bengali village, seen largely through the eyes of young Apu and his older sister Durga as their parents struggle to provide. Satyajit Ray’s landmark debut finds beauty in everyday moments, from a monsoon storm to a first glimpse of a distant train, while facing hardship, loss, and resilience head-on.

Join us for a discussion following the film.
