Background

Downey City Library endeavors to provide bibliographic instruction and library orientations to all library patrons including Downey residents, students, community clubs and organizations. Visits to the library provide an excellent opportunity to inform the public about what the Library has to offer and to teach library patrons how to better utilize the vast resources within the library.

Purpose

The purpose of this document is to establish a class and group visit policy that upholds Downey City Library's mission: to meet the educational, cultural, recreational, reading, viewing, and listening needs of its patrons through the various materials and media. To provide consistent, high quality products and services with a knowledgeable and informed staff, and to provide an encouraging and receptive environment to promote lifelong learning and personal development.

Policy

The Library provides a tour of the library to Downey residents, students and community clubs and organizations. Visitors will be provided an orientation to the library which may also include instruction in the use of library, searching strategies and presentations which may include a story time for younger patrons.

The library encourages residents, schools, clubs and organizations to contact the library to arrange a tour of the library. Visitors interested in scheduling a tour should contact a staff member listed below.
